RTT: Temperature in AL: 1,000,001°F

I guess you know it's Tuesday just by the title of this post. But in case you didn't know, Tuesdays mean it's time for Random Tuesday! Originally hosted by Keely, The Un Mom, RTT is a day to write put down all your random thoughts into one blog post. Whether you're just catching everyone up on your week or your brain is malfunctioning due to screaming kids.  In my case, it's melting because it's so hot. If you think you have what it takes, create your own post and link up! {You can also link up with  Julie, Ane, Stacy, Cass, and Raven.} Keely is still on hiatus due to her new job, which I hear is so fantabulous that they have International Talk Like a Pirate Day. If I ever get a job that cool, I would never, ever leave it! 

• So summer is officially here in Alabama. That's right, it's summer, not spring. Here in Alabama, we go from winter to fall, back to winter and then straight on to summer. Last week, heck just a few days ago, it was in the 50's and low 60's! We might have had one day of spring. And now it's a million degrees outside! {The high today was only supposed to be 92°F.}
• J came home early Friday, so we went to the park in Oxford. It was such a pretty day. I think it was that spring day I was telling you about.

•  After we left the park, we went out to eat at a Mexican restaurant, but my food was so gross, I couldn't eat it. I told the manager about it and he didn't make us pay for it. 
• SPOILER ALERT: Thor 3D was awesome!!!! The ending was lame, but I'll spare you the details and make you see it for yourself. It's really weird that Anthony Hopkins plays Thor's Father though.
• We went hiking Sunday in the Cheaha Mountain State Park. It was a really beautiful day. The high was supposed to be 86°F, but I don't think it ever got that high since it was so cloudy. It really felt like it was going to rain because it got so muggy. Sabrina really enjoyed herself, she even jumped in the water with us to cool off. And when J was under the waterfall, she fell in trying to get to him. Bless her heart.

 

•  As we were walking to the car, I stepped between two small rocks and landed really hard on my left ankle. Now, I'm limping around in a brace that J, thankfully, had when he hurt his ankle a few months ago.
• The laundry detergent I made is awesome! It makes the clothes feel just as soft as regular store-bought detergent and they smell just as clean if not better! I ended up using another bar of the Fels Naptha soap. I like for the clothes to smell really clean, even after the dryer. And now, they do! If you plan on making the detergent, try it with one bar of soap first. Then, if it's not strong enough for you, add another bar. Or maybe just half. 
• I vacuumed yesterday, {You should have seen me hobbling around trying to vacuum. It was quite comical.} and today, you can't even tell. There are bug parts everywhere!! I've complained to our apartment manager, but she says we have to buy some bug spray ourselves. But every time I go to Wally World, I forget! If you sit really quietly in the living room, you can hear the beetles trying to get under the front door. They tunnel under the door, get under the rug or some other piece of furniture, and then they die. It's the strangest thing. They're some kind of black beetle. I tried to take a picture of them and their tunnel lines:

 Weird right? Anyone know what they are?

• I love The Zac Brown Band.

• There's so many people that have gotten sick because of allergies lately. I'm not one of them! It's a miracle. I haven't been sick since I had my tonsils out! It's the best decision I've ever made. And the worst physical pain I've ever been through too. But I totally recommend it. LOL. I used to have the worst allergies ever! I got sick in the winter, spring, summer and fall. I even had pneumonia in the summer of 2007! Pollen usually = near-death for me, but not this year! WOOT! {I really do have empathy for all of y'all that have been sick. /=}
• Anyone tried the Febreze Luminaries? They smell awesome! And they're really pretty too. I was telling my sister about mine yesterday. The smell is so strong, I nearly had to move it to another room. But it covered up that rotten smell coming from the trash that J hadn't taken out. {I'm limping! I can't carry the trash out! Too much walking.}
• I made Quesadilla casserole last night for dinner and J was in the kitchen when I put the green peppers in. After it was cooked and we were eating, he said it tasted different last time. He said he could really taste the green peppers now. Whatever! It's like a kid that knows there's vegetables on his burger and he won't eat it. If he hadn't been in the kitchen while I was cooking, he wouldn't have noticed. I swear, it's like having a child.
• I was trying to check out bank account last night from my phone. I sent a text to what I thought was the bank and I kept waiting and nothing happened. This is why:

Yes, that happened. I wish the bank had replied with 

the same balance my sister gave me. LOL.

• Last week I admitted to being in love with Hulk Hogan and Alan Jackson, when I was younger. Proof:

Well Jaime was going to marry Doogie Howser!

 Thursday I was feeling a lot better than I have been in awhile.

So I decided to get busy with some projects that have been sitting around 

the house longer than I have. *ahem*

I started out by sanding the dresser tower I found sitting out by the

dumpster one day. They didn't want it! And there was nothing

wrong with it, other than the coloring on the drawers. 

(It was obviously a children's dresser. It still had little

girl pajamas and undies in the bottom drawer.)

It also had a piece of weave in it...gross.

After sanding the top and one side, the battery to the 

sander died. So I swapped the batteries and sanded the front and

the other side. I started sanding the third drawer and that battery died.

So, I had to wait several hours for the batteries to charge before I 

could finish. I cleaned out the plastic storage drawers

in the bedroom and unpacked two more boxes of 

picture frames and J's pajama shorts.

After reorganizing the bottom of the closet some,

so I could fit the plastic drawers storage thing in there,

I ran to the Dollar General to buy a cheese grater.

Why, you ask? To make my own homemade laundry

detergent, of course!

I got the idea from my friend, and fellow blogger, Holly.

(I think we're friends. We are friends aren't we Holly?...)

Anywho. She has 5 beautiful kiddos and she made 

her own laundry detergent. I figure if it's good enough for Holly's 

sweet babies, it's gotta be good enough for the Hubby and I.

I had already bought the supplies at Wally World (Holly bought hers at 

Pub-lick's for around $8.) on the Laundry detergent aisle, but when I got

home to make it, I didn't have a cheese grater! I don't know how that

happened. We've been married almost 3 years and we both love

 cheese. I know I've even bought block cheese before. Apparently,

we just ate the block whole...

SO...I keep getting side-tracked... When I got back from the DG,

the batteries were charged, so I finished sanding and then wiped

off the dust so I could paint. I laid out my drop-cloth and 

set out my paint. Conveniently enough, the brush was just a smidgen 

too big for the paint-can mouth, so I had to have a tray.

Instead of running out to buy one, I improvised and used the plastic,

albeit reusable tray from Hormel's Refrigerated Entrees.

Heck yeah, these are awesome.

And Jeremy scoffed at me when I emptied and then washed the tray

to reuse it. I knew it would come in handy for something. lol. It was perfect!

I painted the dresser and then the drawers. Then I put a second coat on.

Surprisingly, the paint we bought at Lowe's dries really quickly!

Valspar's with primer included. It's really awesome

and totally worth the extra bucks. A quart cost us about $14.

Luckily, that's all we needed for the dresser.

After I finished painting...and stepping in the paint,

I started grating my block of Fels Naptha soap.

I grated all the way down to this tiny piece:

I may or may not have grated some of my nail...

so one of us quite possibly, may have a piece of nail

scratch us when we put on our clothes...

And a few Special K flakes may or may not have

been raked into the container when I was cleaning up 

spilled soap crumbles. Oh well. I forgot to clean the counter

this morning after making a bowl of cereal.

Anywho, so y'all can make your own homemade laundry detergent,

here are the ingredients and instructions:

1 bar of Fels Naptha soap, shaved (97¢/bar)

2 C of Borax($2.98 for 4lb. 12 oz. box)

2 C of Arm and Hammer Soda Wash (not to be confused with baking soda) 

($2.77 for 3lb. 7 oz. box)

(That's $6.72 for all the supplies!)

I really like the way the soap smells. I think there is another

recipe out there that calls for Ivory, but Ivory makes my skin itchy

and dry, so I'm using Fels Naptha instead. If you want to use the Ivory bar

of soap, you may have to use more, since the bar is smaller.

When you wash laundry, you only use 1-3 Tbsp. depending on how

large your load is and how dirty they are. Regular detergents bubble up,

but this does NOT, so don't just keep adding the stuff. Bubbles

don't necessarily mean your clothes will be clean!!

I'm storing mine in a plastic container I bought at The Dollar Tree.

A buck for storage? Sure!!!

I'll letcha know how the detergent works out! And I'll post pics of 

the finished dresser when I have the knobs. :)

No.

She's funny.

She gives great advice. {Even if I don't listen}

She's always been there for me.

3. What is your favorite thing your mother cooks?

Mama does cook much for us anymore. But when I was

little, I loved her chili. Yum-o!

4. What do you love about being a mom?

*Sigh*..I'm not a mom. 

5. What are your plans for Mother's day?

Don't have any.

RTT: {Something clever here...}

It's Tuesday...and that means it's ok to be random.

So let's get to it.

RTT is originally hosted by Keely at The Un Mom. She is still

on her hiatus, so I've volunteered to host temporarily, along

with Julie, Ane, Stacy, Cass, and Raven.

{Not sure if anyone knows that though...since no one linked up last week.}

• Pineapple sandwiches for dinner are only acceptable when the Hubby is not home...
• I really miss J. He's out helping with the National Guard to recover people who are still missing from last week's tornado outbreak in Alabama.
• We have over 315 channels (thank you Josh Turner...) and there's never anything worth watching.
• Why is it, that no matter what time it is, all of the movie channels are in the middle of a movie? It's annoying when you go to watch a movie at 7 and there's no movies starting then.
• Sabrina got frisky last night and wanted to play ball at 2330.
•  I wanted to keep the babies over the weekend, so I picked them up Saturday around noon and brought them home with me. We went to the park and Target and when we got back home, they took a nap. I guess it was too late, because that night, The Princess would NOT go to sleep. She finally wiggled and cried herself to sleep around 0130. Ridiculous. Then Boog woke me up at 0630 and his crying woke her up. So I took them home Sunday morning.
• I was supposed to have a doctor's appt today to check my thyroid, but unfortunately, our insurance ran out and I never got a chance to renew it. 
• When I got online to fill out the paperwork to renew our insurance, I couldn't log onto anything. Apparently, J has to do it, since he has all the passwords. *sigh*
• J and I saw Fast  Five Friday night and it was AWESOME! 
• I'm currently watching The Fast and the Furious...love this movie. Love Vin Diesel. :)
• It's raining.
• I'm praying for all the victims of  the tornadoes and the storms last week. The rain can't be helping matters any.
• Osama Bin Laden was killed by US action Sunday. I only have one thing to say about that:

17 Do not rejoice when your enemy falls,

• I figure it's finally May, so that means spring is over. I put up all my spring decorations with the Easter stuff. So what do I decorate with for Summer?? I really liked my spring decorations. >.<
• Did I mention I miss my Hubby? :(

** UPDATE: Apparently, none of you fine folks have ever heard of a pineapple sandwich...maybe it's a southern 'thang'? So, I'm gonna help you make one.

So, you take your two slices of bread {wheat, white, whatever...} and you slather some mayonnaise on it. Or miracle whip...whatever. I actually prefer miracle whip because it's kinda sweet. Then you top it with a piece of American cheese on one side and two slices of pineapple on the other. I put mayo on both pieces of bread. You might want to dab your pineapple slices with a paper towel if they're particularly juicy. Otherwise you're going to have pineapple-flavored mayonnaise running down your arms... But really, that's part of the experience. Srsly, try this at home! I'm going to go have one right now. :)**
