RTT: Summertime, School, Mother's Day, etc.

It's Random Tuesday Thoughts, brought to you by Stacy at Stacy Uncorked! Be sure to check out her blog and link up if you want to participate!

  • It's finally summertime! We got to get in the pool yesterday and even though it was really, really cold at first, we stayed in for about 30 minutes or so. Today it's supposed to be upwards of 89°F, so I'm hoping we can go swim again when J gets off work!
  • We decided to keep Tobias around for now. I love him so much and it breaks my heart to think about finding him a new home, so we're looking into getting him de-clawed. He has been scratching up the furniture lately and we can't afford for him to do that. We really can't afford for him to scratch the baby when he/she arrives, so Toby needs those little daggers gone!
  • ^^Toby listening to the baby yesterday. :)
  • I'm 29 weeks as of yesterday! I am so excited! I can't wait to meet my little "acorn!"
  • My first Mother's Day as a mother-to-be was wonderful! J got me this beautiful necklace (the little diamond represents our little "acorn!"):
  • J and I went to church at Somerville Baptist and they gave all the mothers a little purse mirror:
  •  After church, we ate at Cracker Barrel. Then we went home to let the girls go outside to potty. J gave me my second mother's day present. It's a calendar to record the baby's first year. (It's pink, but he said that since I'm the one filling it out, it doesn't matter if we have a boy or girl. ):
  • After resting a bit at home, we went to the Huntsville Botanical Gardens. It was such a beautiful day! J took this pic of me standing on the bridge:
  • This past Saturday, J and I had maternity pics taken by my friend Audrey. It rained the entire time we were shooting and only stopped just after we were done for the day! But, even though it was raining, we had a great time and it was well worth it! Here's my favorite so far:
  • I made A's in American Literature, Psychology, and Physical Science and I made a B in Calculus! New semester starts the 23rd. I'm only taking Art Appreciation and Physical Science II. I'm hoping it will be an easy semester.
That's all I've got for now. Please pray for the victims of the tornado outbreak in Oklahoma.

Book Review: "Fly Away Home"

Fly Away HomeFly Away Home by Jennifer Weiner

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This was another quick read by this author. I liked it and again, it was very easy to follow the plot and little concentration was needed. (Are you seeing a pattern? Prego-brain!) I felt bad for Sylvia when she realized what her husband had done. I felt even worse for Lizzie because of all that she had been through and how she was the black sheep of the family. I couldn't believe Diana was doing nearly the same thing her father had done and I loathed her husband, Gary. Overall, the characters were easily-liked and easy to relate to on some level or another. I at least felt sympathy for them all because of what Richard had done. No one likes to be in the limelight for a scandal.

I know this isn't a series, but I wish that J.W. had written it to be a series so we can find out what happens with Lizzie and Jeff and whether or not Tim becomes part of the bigger picture for Sylvia. Oh well.

Book Review: "The Next Best Thing"

The Next Best ThingThe Next Best Thing by Jennifer Weiner

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I really liked this book. It was a quick read (for me) and the plot wasn't twisted or hard to follow after setting the book down for a few hours. (I am recently having a hard time focusing on reading with my little Cirque du Soleil acrobatist performing in my belly.) I could relate to the struggle the main character had with her appearance (although I am not horribly disfigured!) and the awkward relationships she had with her coworkers. I found myself cheering her on and being really disappointed when everyone tried to "fix" what she had written for the tv show. I didn't enjoy the steamy parts of the book and was frankly embarassed when they came up as I was NOT expecting them. But, getting past that, this was a great read and I really like this author for quick reads that don't require me to pay too much attention.

Book Review: "The Sunshine When She's Gone"

The Sunshine When She's GoneThe Sunshine When She's Gone by Thea Goodman

My rating: 1 of 5 stars

**Spoiler alert**

The PM sent me the hardback copy of this book and I really wanted to like it. It has a great title and the cover was very eye-catching. However, the characters were somewhat boring and the entire plot was just weird. I can understand the wife, Veronica, not being interested in having sex with her husband--She just had a baby and a hysterectomy. Ok, it's awesome that the husband, John, takes the baby out for awhile so she can get some much-needed and deserved rest. I don't really understand why she freaks out about it--her husband has just as much of a duty to take care of the baby as she does and she should just chill out and let him do his thing. But then, when he leaves the COUNTRY with their baby, I lose all hope for him. Has he lost his mind!? First of all...the baby has been on a strict diet since birth and he actually gives the child cow's milk!? She isn't even able to sit up by herself, how is she supposed to digest cow's milk? Absurd. And how crazy do you have to be to take your daughter to another country without letting her mother know beforehand?! Who does that?! Then he smokes pot? I just can't even comprehend what an idiot this guy is.

Just to make this short and because I have better things to do: I didn't like the book. I didn't like the characters, couldn't relate to them, and the ending was vague. Did I mention the title had nothing to do whatsoever, with what happened in the book?

Finals Week

Actually last week we had finals, too, but this is the last week of finals. I've already turned in my American Literature, Physical Science and Psychology finals. The only one left is the dreaded Calculus final on Thursday. I will try to post Friday if I'm not completely devastated! "I think I can, I think I can..."

Wish me luck and if you're the praying sort, pray for me (and my sister) please!

RTT: I don't know...

Lemme go ahead and just start of the random with a bunch of bullets...you know how much I love those!
  •  Got a new post over at "I'm Pregnant...Now What?". Read it and leave me some advice!
  • J and I did some thinking and since he was told by the recruiter he can't go active right now, we are just going to stick it out here in Huntsville/Madison until after the baby comes. No sense in switching doctors and cities right before my due date. So we're stuck in this two bedroom apartment. I think we're going to be able to make it work though. As long as we're not still here when the baby starts crawling! We seriously need a room for just our sharp pointy furniture! LOL.
  • We got a new washer and dryer! I'm in love...mainly with the color, but also with the fact that they are both quiet and I can wash more at one time. Plus, hello! Energy efficient! I hate that we couldn't get the pedestals because of the shelves, but the guy at Lowe's said if we move somewhere that we will have the room for them, they will come out and install them for us! Sweet! It sucks having to get into the floor to do laundry. Especially when you're pregnant!

I finished my American Literature research paper in one day! Only took me five hours!
    • I'm really frustrated right now, because I can't get the stupid bullets to work right anymore, so I'm not going to even write anymore...so there! Stupid blogger.
That is all the random I can handle today. I'm about to throw this laptop. Go see if Stacy is having a better day at Stacy Uncorked, and link up with the randomness!
